How to Set Up LinkedIn Insight Tag & Meta Pixel [2026 Guide]
A complete beginner's guide to installing tracking pixels on your website. No coding experience required. Step-by-step instructions with screenshots.
This guide is based on auditing 100+ tracking setups and configuring pixels for B2B websites across WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, and custom platforms.
What Are Tracking Pixels (And Why Should You Care)?
Imagine running a shop but having no idea who walks in, what they look at, or whether they come back. That's exactly what it's like running digital ads without tracking pixels installed.
Simple explanation:
A tracking pixel is a tiny, invisible piece of code that sits on your website. When someone visits your site, it quietly tells LinkedIn or Meta "hey, this person was here." That's it. No magic, just a digital "welcome mat" that keeps track of foot traffic.
The "Flying Blind" Problem
Without Tracking Pixels:
- ✗No idea if your ads actually drive website visits
- ✗Can't show ads to people who already visited your site
- ✗No way to track if someone filled out a form after seeing an ad
- ✗Wasting money on people who'll never buy
With Tracking Pixels:
- See exactly which ads drive traffic to your site
- Retarget visitors with specific follow-up ads
- Track form submissions, calls, and purchases
- Optimise ads based on actual results

New to LinkedIn or Meta Ads?
Tracking is just one piece of the puzzle. Get the full picture with our beginner tutorials:
Direct Installation vs Google Tag Manager
Before we dive in, you need to choose your installation method. Don't worry - both work great.
Quick Comparison: Direct Install vs GTM
Choose the right installation method for your needs. Both work well—the difference is in long-term management.
| Criteria | Direct Installation | Google Tag Manager ⭐ |
|---|---|---|
| Setup Time | 10-15 minutes | 25-30 minutes |
| Technical Skill Required | Low (copy/paste) | Medium |
| Best For | Single pixel, testing | Multiple pixels, long-term |
| Future Updates | Edit website code | No code changes needed |
| Version Control | No | Yes (undo mistakes) |
| Testing & Preview | Manual only | Built-in preview mode |
| Adding New Pixels | Edit code each time | Add in dashboard (no code) |
Our recommendation: Use Google Tag Manager if you run ads on multiple platforms (LinkedIn, Meta, Google). Use Direct Installation if you're just testing one platform or need the fastest possible setup.
Direct Installation
Paste the pixel code directly into your website's header. Quick, simple, no extra tools needed.
Best for:
Beginners, single platform users, or quick testing
Google Tag Manager
A central "control panel" for all your tracking. Install GTM once, then add/remove pixels anytime without touching your website code.
Best for:
Multiple ad platforms, long-term tracking, growing businesses
Quick Decision Guide
"I'm just testing LinkedIn Ads for the first time"
→ Start with Direct Installation. You can always switch to GTM later.
"I run ads on LinkedIn AND Facebook/Meta"
→ Use Google Tag Manager. Managing multiple pixels is much easier.
"I might add Google Ads or TikTok later"
→ Definitely start with GTM. Future-proof your setup from day one.
"My website is on WordPress/Squarespace/Wix"
→ Either works! These platforms have plugins for both methods.
💡 Pro Tip
If you're unsure, choose Google Tag Manager. It takes about 10 extra minutes to set up initially, but saves hours of headaches later. Plus, it's completely free.
Check your tag is firing (Pixel Helper and friends)
Installed it? Spend two minutes proving it works before you spend a penny on ads. A lot of "my ads aren't tracking" problems I see come down to a tag that was never firing in the first place.
Meta Pixel
- 1Install the free Meta Pixel Helper extension for Chrome (it's made by Meta).
- 2Open your website. The icon shows a number when your Pixel fires. Click it and you should see PageView with a green tick.
- 3For extra certainty, open Events Manager, pick your Pixel, go to Test events and browse your site. Events show up live.
LinkedIn Insight Tag
LinkedIn doesn't make an official Pixel Helper extension, so use one of these instead:
- 1The 30-second check: open your site in Chrome, right-click, Inspect, open the Network tab, type px.ads.linkedin.com into the filter and reload. If requests appear, the tag is firing.
- 2In Campaign Manager, open the Insight Tag page and check your domain is listed. It can take up to 24 hours to appear after the first visit.
- 3Using Google Tag Manager? Click Preview, load your site and check the LinkedIn tag is listed under "Tags fired".
Nothing showing? Accept cookies on your cookie banner first (a rejected banner can block tags), switch off ad blockers for the test, and make sure you published your GTM container, not just saved it.

AGetting Your Insight Tag Code
Log into LinkedIn Campaign Manager
Go to linkedin.com/campaignmanager and sign in with your LinkedIn account.
Navigate to Analyze → Insight Tag
In the left sidebar, click "Analyze", then select "Insight Tag" from the dropdown menu.
Click "See my Insight Tag" or "Install my Insight Tag"
You'll see a screen with your unique Insight Tag code. This is what we need to copy.
Copy Your Partner ID (Important!)
Look for a number called "Partner ID" in your tag code. It looks like this: partner_id: "123456". You'll need this number if using Google Tag Manager.
Your Insight Tag code will look something like this:
<script type="text/javascript">
_linkedin_partner_id = "123456";
window._linkedin_data_partner_ids =
window._linkedin_data_partner_ids || [];
window._linkedin_data_partner_ids.push(_linkedin_partner_id);
</script>
<script type="text/javascript">
(function(l) { ... })();
</script>
<noscript>
<img height="1" width="1" style="display:none;"
alt="" src="https://px.ads.linkedin.com/..." />
</noscript>BInstall on Your Website
Direct Installation (Paste in Header)
Copy the entire Insight Tag code from LinkedIn
All three script blocks - everything from the first <script> to </noscript>
Paste it just before the closing </head> tag
This ensures the pixel loads on every page of your site
Platform-Specific Instructions:
WordPress:
Install "Insert Headers and Footers" plugin → Settings → Insert Headers and Footers → Paste in "Scripts in Header" box → Save
Squarespace:
Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Header → Paste code → Save
Wix:
Settings → Tracking & Analytics → + New Tool → Custom → Paste in "Head" section
Webflow:
Project Settings → Custom Code → Head Code → Paste → Publish
Shopify:
Online Store → Themes → Edit code → theme.liquid → Paste before </head> → Save
CVerify It's Working
Install LinkedIn Insight Tag Helper (Chrome Extension)
Download the free LinkedIn Insight Tag Helper from the Chrome Web Store.
Visit your website
Open your website in Chrome. Click the LinkedIn Insight Tag Helper icon in your browser toolbar.
Check for the green checkmark
If everything is working, you'll see your Partner ID and a confirmation that the tag is firing.
Success!
If you see your Partner ID in the helper, your LinkedIn Insight Tag is properly installed. It may take up to 24 hours for data to appear in Campaign Manager.
Common Mistake to Avoid
Don't install the Insight Tag code more than once! If you use GTM, don't also paste the code directly into your website. Double-firing the pixel can cause tracking issues and inflate your numbers.

Install Meta Pixel Helper (Chrome Extension)
Download the free Meta Pixel Helper from the Chrome Web Store.
Visit your website
Open your website in Chrome. The helper icon will turn blue and show a number if the pixel is detected.
Click the helper to see details
You should see your Pixel ID and "PageView" event. Green checkmark = success!
Success!
Your Meta Pixel is working. You can also check Events Manager - the "Test Events" tab lets you see real-time activity.
iOS 14+ Note
Since iOS 14, Apple requires apps to ask permission before tracking. This means some iPhone/iPad users won't be tracked by your pixel. This is normal - your data might show 15-30% fewer conversions than actually occurred. Meta accounts for this in their reporting.

Complete Meta Pixel Setup GuideGoogle Tag Manager Setup
Complete beginner walkthrough
What is Google Tag Manager? Think of it as a "control panel" for all your tracking codes. Instead of pasting code directly into your website (and having to edit your site every time you want to change something), you install GTM once and then manage everything from a simple web interface.
1Create Your GTM Account
Go to Google Tag Manager
Visit tagmanager.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
Click "Create Account"
Fill in the following:
- • Account Name: Your company name
- • Country: Your country
- • Container name: Your website URL (e.g., "mywebsite.com")
- • Target platform: Select "Web"
Accept the Terms of Service
Click "Yes" to accept Google's terms. You'll then see your container code.
2Install GTM on Your Website
GTM gives you two code snippets. You need to install BOTH on every page of your website:
Code Snippet #1 (goes in the <head>)
<!-- Google Tag Manager -->
<script>(function(w,d,s,l,i){w[l]=w[l]||[];w[l].push({'gtm.start':
new Date().getTime(),event:'gtm.js'});var f=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],
j=d.createElement(s),dl=l!='dataLayer'?'&l='+l:'';j.async=true;j.src=
'https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtm.js?id='+i+dl;f.parentNode.insertBefore(j,f);
})(window,document,'script','dataLayer','GTM-XXXXXXX');</script>
<!-- End Google Tag Manager -->Code Snippet #2 (goes right after opening <body>)
<!-- Google Tag Manager (noscript) --> <noscript><iframe src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/ns.html?id=GTM-XXXXXXX" height="0" width="0" style="display:none;visibility:hidden"></iframe></noscript> <!-- End Google Tag Manager (noscript) -->
Platform-Specific Installation:
WordPress:
Install "GTM4WP" plugin → Settings → Google Tag Manager → Enter your GTM ID (GTM-XXXXXXX) → Save
Squarespace:
Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Paste snippet #1 in Header, snippet #2 in Footer
Wix:
Marketing & SEO → Marketing Integrations → Google Tag Manager → Connect → Enter ID
Webflow:
Project Settings → Integrations → Google Tag Manager → Paste your GTM ID → Publish
Shopify:
Settings → Customer Events → Add Google Tag Manager → Enter your GTM ID
Custom HTML:
Edit your template files directly - add code #1 before </head> and code #2 right after <body>
3Verify GTM is Installed
Use Tag Assistant Legacy (Chrome Extension)
Install Tag Assistant Legacy, visit your website, and click the extension icon. You should see your GTM container listed.
Use GTM Preview Mode
In GTM, click "Preview" → Enter your website URL → A debug panel will appear at the bottom of your site showing which tags fire.
4Add Your Tracking Pixels to GTM
Now that GTM is installed, you can add LinkedIn and Meta pixels without touching your website code again!

See the LinkedIn section above for GTM setup steps
Meta Pixel

Important GTM Tips
- Always use Preview mode before publishing to test your tags
- Click "Submit" to publish your changes - nothing goes live until you submit!
- Add version notes when publishing so you can track what changed
- You can always revert - GTM keeps version history if something breaks
Setting Up Conversion Events
Track form submissions, button clicks, and more
What is a "Conversion" Anyway?
A conversion is simply an action you want people to take on your website. It could be filling out a contact form, clicking a phone number, downloading a brochure, or booking a demo.
Soft Conversion
Newsletter signup, content download
Medium Conversion
Contact form, demo request
Hard Conversion
Sale, signed contract, payment
1Create a Conversion in LinkedIn Campaign Manager
Go to Analyze → Conversion Tracking
In LinkedIn Campaign Manager, click "Analyze" in the left sidebar, then "Conversion Tracking"
Click "Create Conversion"
Choose your conversion type
• Online conversion: Website actions (most common for B2B)
• Offline conversion: Import CRM data later
2Configure Your Conversion
For a Thank You Page Conversion:
- 1. Select "Page load" as the trigger
- 2. Enter your thank you page URL (e.g., /thank-you or /confirmation)
- 3. Choose "URL equals" or "URL contains"
- 4. Give it a name like "Contact Form Submission"
For an Event-Based Conversion (Button Click):
- 1. Select "Image pixel" option
- 2. Copy the provided pixel code
- 3. Add to your button's onclick event OR use GTM (see below)
3Track Button Clicks via GTM (Advanced)
To track specific button clicks (like a "Submit" button):
- 1In GTM, go to Triggers → New → Click - All Elements
- 2Set "This trigger fires on" to "Some Clicks"
- 3Add condition: Click Text contains "Submit" (or your button text)
- 4Create a new LinkedIn Insight Tag with this trigger
- 5Add the conversion-specific pixel code from LinkedIn
Pro Tip: Test Your Conversions
After setting up conversions, always test them! Fill out your own form and check:
- LinkedIn: Conversion shows in Campaign Manager → Conversion Tracking
- Meta: Event shows in Events Manager → Test Events tab
- GTM: Preview mode shows the tag firing on form submit
