How to Create a LinkedIn Ad Account (2026)

You've decided to try LinkedIn Ads. Smart move for B2B. But before you can target anyone, you need an ad account — and LinkedIn's setup flow is designed to rush you into spending money before you've configured anything properly.

This guide walks you through creating your LinkedIn Campaign Manager account the right way. No accidental campaigns, no wrong currency, no billing surprises. Ten minutes and you'll be set up properly.

Written by James Green — I've set up and managed LinkedIn Ad Accounts for dozens of B2B clients. This guide is based on real onboarding experience, not LinkedIn's marketing materials.

What You Need Before You Start

Before you create your ad account, make sure you have these three things ready. Missing any of them will stall you mid-setup.

    LinkedIn Company Page

Your business's public LinkedIn profile. This is what your ads will be associated with.

    Payment Method

Credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). You won't be charged until you launch a campaign.

    Your Currency Decision

GBP for UK businesses. You can't change this later. Choose carefully.

Don't have a Company Page yet?

Creating one takes 2 minutes. From your personal LinkedIn profile:

    1. Click "For Business" in the top navigation
    2. Select "Create a Company Page"
    3. Choose your company type (Small business for most B2B firms)
    4. Fill in your company details, logo, and description
    5. Click "Create page". Done.

Step-by-Step: Create Your LinkedIn Ad Account

    1Go to LinkedIn Campaign Manager

Visit linkedin.com/campaignmanager and sign in with the personal LinkedIn account you want to be the admin. This should be your account — not your intern's, not your previous agency's. You're the owner.

    2Click "Create Account"

If this is your first time in Campaign Manager, you'll see a welcome screen with a "Create Account" button. If you already have other ad accounts, click the account dropdown at the top and select "Create Account".

    3Configure Your Account Details

    Fill in the following:

    • • Account name: Your company name (e.g., "Acme Solutions Ltd"). Keep it simple — this is internal only.
    • • Currency: Select GBP (£) if you're UK-based. You cannot change this later.
    • • LinkedIn Page: Link your Company Page. Start typing and it'll appear in the dropdown.

Currency warning: This is the #1 mistake people make. If you select USD instead of GBP, you'll see all your costs in dollars and your billing will be in dollars. The only fix is creating a brand new account.

    4Skip the Campaign Wizard

LinkedIn will immediately try to push you into creating your first campaign. Don't do this yet. The guided setup uses default settings that aren't optimised for your business. It'll pick broad targeting, automated bidding, and LinkedIn's recommended budget — all of which will waste money.

Look for a "Skip" or "Set up later" option. You want to land in the Campaign Manager dashboard with a clean, empty account.

    5Verify Your Account is Created

You should now be in the Campaign Manager dashboard. You'll see your account name at the top, an empty campaigns list, and navigation tabs for Campaigns, Audiences, Assets, and more. That's it — your ad account exists.

    Setting Up Billing

You can't launch ads without a payment method. But don't worry — adding a card doesn't charge you anything. You're only billed when campaigns are live and spending.

1In Campaign Manager, click Account Settings (gear icon) → Billing centre
2Click Add credit card and enter your card details (Visa, Mastercard, or Amex)
3Add your business name and billing address for invoicing purposes
4Save. Your billing is set. LinkedIn will charge you based on actual ad spend, typically at month-end or when you hit a billing threshold.

Pro tip: Use a company credit card, not a personal one. If the card holder leaves the company, you don't want your ads to stop running because the payment method is tied to someone who no longer works there.

First Things to Configure (Before You Spend a Penny)

Your account is live. Before you create your first campaign, do these three things. Skipping them means your first campaigns will generate data you can't use.

📡 1. Install the LinkedIn Insight Tag

The Insight Tag is a snippet of code on your website that tracks who visits after seeing your ads. Without it, you can't measure conversions, build retargeting audiences, or see website demographics.

🎯 2. Set Up Conversion Tracking

Define what counts as a conversion for your business — form submissions, demo bookings, phone calls. Without conversion tracking, LinkedIn optimises towards impressions and clicks. With it, LinkedIn optimises towards the actions that actually matter.

Go to Analyse → Conversion tracking → Create conversion. Choose your conversion type and install the event-specific code.

👥 3. Grant Access to Your Team or Agency

If you're working with an agency or team members, add them now so they can see the clean account from day one — not after they've been waiting a week.

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

    Choosing the wrong currency

→ This is permanent. GBP for UK businesses, EUR for European, USD for US. Triple-check before confirming.

Creating a campaign during the setup wizard

→ LinkedIn's guided flow uses defaults designed to spend your money fast. Skip it and configure campaigns manually.

Letting your agency create the ad account

→ Always create the account yourself. You're the owner. Grant your agency access — don't let them own your data.

Not installing the Insight Tag before launching ads

→ Without the tag, you can't track conversions or build retargeting audiences. Install it before you spend a penny.

Using a personal email instead of a company admin

→ Set up the account from a LinkedIn profile that will outlast any individual employee. The account creator is the default admin.

    Skipping conversion tracking setup

→ Without conversions defined, LinkedIn optimises for clicks. Clicks don't pay your bills. Set up conversion events first.
